After the intensity of my stay in Budapest, it has been nice to see things at a slower pace and relax a little bit here in Leipzig.
Right, big changes, I’m in Leipzig, a small city in East Germany. A full day of travel got me in town just in time to watch the World Cup Finals. It was pretty sweet to be in the winning country seeing it live, especially to see that beautiful goal that won Germany the match. We expected the celebrations to be wilder and more excited, but we are in an arty part of an already arty town, and apparently East Germany still doesn’t have super strong nationalistic leanings.
Anyway, here in Leipzig I met up with three artists from my University who have been doing a residency at Halle 14, a contemporary art center in town. I’ll be curating their work in the spring at UPS. I got to spend my time here in the studio, learning about the work they’ve been doing, exploring the art center as a whole, and seeing a few of the sights and museums in town.
Mostly though, I’ve been eating, drinking and processing. Its nice to have some downtime after Budapest and a full day of travel. I always love to go to Germany for the imbibing, and the beer and sausage and chocolates haven’t disappointed. I’ve found a good coffee roaster and gotten a lot of time do read, write and edit photos. Its been a good stay here. More to come on Leipzig and Halle 14 in another post – this is about the art my friends have made.
Last night they had an open studio, which is a sort of informal gallery opening where you show off your work in the studio. A lot of other artists came and shared in art, food, drink and table tennis (they love it here). Haley, Abbie and Kristen have done some great work while they were here, I’ll let it speak for itself!
